Most of us love to see beautiful gardens in our yard. And yes that is fascinating to see and so relaxing. For some, it seems so easy. But the reality is, it is not just about plowing, planting and watering. There are certain measures you will need to consider before you start your own garden. I am not an expert on this but what I will tell is based from personal experience.

First you will need to consider is the place where you want to set up your garden. You will have to make that the area will receive enough sunlight for your plants to grow wonderfully. But of course, not too much sunlight.

After considering your place to start your own garden, you have to consider the soil. Is it good? You will have to make a research on what kind of soil you will need for a certain kind of plant. Do not just plant whatever you like. It will not do you any good.

And then, you will also have to consider what you need to plant. Sometimes, you will have to choose the plant that corresponds to the weather. That is because there are plants that do not like too cold or too warm weather. So you have to be careful. Better yet, choose the plant that can live and survive in all seasons.

Lastly, after all has been considered, everythign boils down to how you take care of your garden. After planting, do not just leave them behind. You will have to make sure to water them everyday. And one tip in watering your plants, the best to do it is during early morning or at night. That is to save water and too much evaporation. And then, you will also have to make sure that from time to time, you loosen the soil around your plants. that will help for the plants to quickly absorb the water and nutrients. It also much advisable to use fertilizers to help your plants. But not too much of it basically. Again, you will have to do certain research on which fertilizer you need to use.

All these are only based on personal experience that I managed to successfully follow when I started my own garden. Yes it is not easy but it is rewarding to see how pretty your garden will be. Especially when you see your flowers growing and you have your neighbors really envy on your garden.

That is all that I can give all those interested in gardening and taking care of their lawns. Remember, plants are like the people you love that you will need to take care of everyday. just love what you do, and all else will fall into places. And ion the end, you will definitely see a wonderful garden in your lawn.

You can get more information about garden pests such as grub worms at our natural lawn care blog.

An attractive vegetable garden layout has many benefits for your garden aside from it being nice to look at. The particular arrangements are one of the main factors to be considered if you want to grow your vegetables healthily. Below are some popular garden layouts and the benefits to your vegetables:

• Potager layout- This type of layout is perfect for those who want to see a lot of mixed colors in their garden, since the potager style is mixing your usual vegetable or herbs with flowers here and there. This style will help your vegetables grow beautifully and will ward off pests since you are pairing the plants up. We all know that there are some plants that are excellent for warding off pests such as nematodes.

• Traditional- The traditional garden layout means planting your vegetables by row. This is ideal if you have a large garden, and will help the vegetables soak up a lot of sunlight–which is good for them

• Raised bed- This is ideal for those who only have small gardens since you can plant the vegetables closer through the raised bed pattern. You can do this pattern if you want to start early in planting, since the raised bed will help the soil get warm quicker, which is ideal for tropical vegetables.

• Four square pattern- This pattern is best for those who want to be able to see the full coverage of the garden, since it is designed in a way that the vegetables are planted in the four corners of a garden, leaving a cross pathway so that it will be easy to reach the produce.

• Formal asymmetrical garden layout- This pattern is best for those who want order in everything he or she does, since through this pattern you will be able to decide as to which vegetables go on each side, etc. You can also add other stuff such as a bench if it will fit into your design. This is actually considered a free-form pattern.

These are some of the more popular designs for vegetable gardens, but you do not have to strictly follow any single pattern. You can make your own designs if you have your own ideas. It never hurts to be creative when gardening. Although vegetables grow well in different types of patterns, a primary factor in the health of your garden is through the way the gardener takes care of it.

A garden pergola is an excellent addition to most properties. If you construct it yourself, it can cost less than a few hundred dollars. All you need is a good set of plans, little or no experience, materials and preferably step by step instructions. There are plenty of garden pergola plans which can be obtained online with varying sizes, shapes, and styles. However, if you cannot find a free plan, you may have to pay a small fee to obtain a professional or custom plan to fit your needs exactly.

Square and rectangular are the most common outdoor pergola designs, but they can also come in circular, diamonds, and even hexagonal shapes. Building a pergola is not as difficult as it sounds. Although you will need some experience with basic tools and machinery, it can be a fairly easy task if you have the right plans and materials. Unless your project requires specialized equipment, most of the materials can be obtained from the local hardware store. If you do not own the tools necessary for the job, you can rent them instead which will save you money as well.

Building a garden pergola yourself is far cheaper than using garden pergola kits, but you will need to make sure that all the measurements are correct. Make sure to choose the location very carefully for your pergola and plot every angle because overhanging trees or other structures could pose a problem. Often builders underestimate the size of the structure from their plans, so having the right dimensions will make the entire process much easier. You should not use plans that are too large or too small for your garden because it can ruin the overall appearance of your landscape. If you cannot find an exact plan to fit your garden, try hiring a builder to draw up a plan for you. This extra step will definitely cost more but in the end, you will end up with the pergola structure of your dreams.

One of the more prolific spreading plants in the garden is the squash plant. These are notorious for taking up their fair share of room in the garden, and often scare those with limited space away from growing them. What many do not realize is that you can actually grow squash without taking up so much space in your garden. All it takes is a carefully designed trellis net and a little creativity.

As a result of the size of the squash plant, many feel like you simply cannot grow squash vertically. Not only are the vines too long, but the squash are too heavy for a trellis system. This is simply not the case. Not only can you design your squash to climb the netting, but you’ll find that the plant is well able to support the weight of its fruit. As long as you have built a sufficiently strong support structure for the net, your plant will do just fine.

For best results, we recommend that you at least a 2 foot by 1 foot section to grow your plant. The trellis should also be at least 6 – 8 feet tall in order to provide the plant plenty of room to grow. Because of the prolific growth these plants can have, you may need to train the plant both and back down the garden netting.

Training the squash plant to the netting is actually quite easy. Periodically adjust the plant so that it weaves in and out of the netting grid. The net is typically made of nylon and will stretch sufficiently to weave the plant. With a little experience, you will also learn each individual plants threshold for bending.

Planting your squash plants vertically can be an excellent way to save space in your garden and still enjoy this summer plant. Remember that the leaves of a squash plant are quite large, so expect your vertical trellis to provide plenty of shade to surrounding plants. Plant your garden accordingly and you can use this to your advantage.

There are all sorts of different trees you can plant in your garden. Whether you are planting a new tree or you have a tree that is already established, you will want to learn how to care for your particular tree carefully.

Mulch - Mulch can come in a variety of different types including bark, wood chips, cocoa shells and even recycled rubber. The idea is that the mulch protects the soil from the heat of the sun and therefore prevents water evaporation. The mulch also helps stop weeds from growing which also good because weeds can use up nutrients from the soil that is really needed by the tree.

Watering - Watering is particularly important for newly planted tree because the roots are very thirsty for water. There’s actually a product that you can buy that you fill with water and it gradually releases the water into the roots. Watering is also very important when the weather is dry and there is leaf and shoot development.

Fertilization - If your tree is starting to look a little sorry for itself then you should consider applying a fertilizer to the soil. However it can be a little complicated because you need to take into consideration the type of soil. This why soil testing is important because you can then see what nutrients are missing from your soil. Also, be aware that the roots of trees can spread out far and wide, which means you shouldn’t just fertilize around the base of the tree.

You also need to be very careful about what products you use on your lawn or other surrounding plants. Some of these products might be harmful to your tree, such as weed killers. Don’t do anything like this before you really know what you’re doing and whether it will have a helpful or detrimental effect on your tree.

These ’seed banks’ are suppose be stored for future use in case something like the end of the World comes about or Uncle Sam takes all our garden seeds away. Okay, that last sentence was a little sarcastic, but if you’ve seen any of these ads using scare tactics, then you’ll see where I’m coming from.

But realistically, is it a good idea to store seeds for future use? As someone who is always planing for the worse and hoping for the best, I say yes! Another fear pushing the sales of these survivalist seed banks is genetic engineering of our plants. Many claim that ‘the forces that be’ are creating plants that produce sterile seed.

These people claim these companies are producing such plants in order to make more money and control the citizens. Whether you believe that or not is up to you.

If you do decide to store you own seeds, don’t blow your hard earned money on these ads. You can put your own seeds back in your own waterproof container and save a bunch of money in the process. Just like food storage, all it takes is a little planning and a little creativity.

What I do is buy only heirloom seeds. I then find a nice water proof container to store the seeds in. You can use a 2 to 3 foot section of 4 inch PVC pipe and then seal both ends with a cap. Just make sure you use good glue and get a complete seal.

A friend of mine spends extra money and gets plastic ammo cans from sporting goods retailers like Cabelas. These come with a waterproof seal around the perimeter of the lid. He goes one step further and uses silicone to seal the lid and then puts them back for storage.

Before putting your seeds in these containers, some folks will put them in plastic bags and vacuum pack the package, locking in the seeds. This is just another effort to keep the seeds dry. So if you’ve been thinking of buying a survival seed bank, you might want to try making one yourself first!

Decking can provide a fabulous extension of your living space. It offers a seamless transition from inside to outside living. A deck provides a defined space with a solid walking surface. The solid surface is especially beneficially when adding dining areas and outdoor kitchens. These types of uses need a flat solid surface to offer maximum functional use.

The functionality of an outdoor deck is endless. They can provide a simple area to sit and enjoy being outside. They can be as elaborate complete outdoor dining, living and kitchen spaces. They can incorporate water features or spas. It is up to you to decide what you want to accomplish with your garden decking project.

Decks can be made from a variety of materials. Treated lumber is an industry standard. It is readily available and can be painted or stained a variety of finishes to match your home. However, it does age and have to be refinished and repaired over time. One of the new composite materials offers the look of wood with and almost maintenance free life. Other than periodic cleaning the composite does not fade and decompose.

If you still wish the beauty of real wood you have a lot of options. Teak is expensive but has an elegance that is timeless and goes with most any decorating theme. It does not require special treatments to protect it. Teak ages well and blends into its outdoor surroundings.

It is very important to do a little research and think about your space. Use the internet, libraries and local home improvement stores. There is a wealth of information out there to help you plan. What will fit your needs and fit the space? What materials will look best and stay within the budget? What functions are essential and which things are just on the wish list? All these questions must be answered so you can begin making plans for your new outdoor space.

When it comes to growing healthy plants, there is simply no substitute for a mini greenhouse. Greenhouses provide plants with an ideal environment for growth and development through the efficient utilization of the sun’s energy. Mini greenhouses in particular allow the everyday homeowner to grow their plants in a near perfect environment. If you happen to own one of these small structures already or even if you’re just considering giving it a shot, it’s important to know about one of most significant enhancements you can make – climate control.

Just when you thought that merely owning a greenhouse was enough, I’m here to tell you that you’re missing out without the advantage of climate control. Although you are essentially controlling the climate whenever you use a greenhouse to grow plants, most greenhouses will fluctuate wildly in terms of temperature without something to help regulate them. Think for a moment about your car and how quickly it heats up in the summer time when the windows are rolled up. Think also about how quickly the inner environment of your car cools down when the windows are cracked or rolled down entirely. This is the type of control you need in order to prevent large spikes in temperatures. Conversely, you will want to have some form of active heating to prevent corresponding drops in temperature.

In order to see what’s out there in terms of basic climate control modules, you will want to head online to browse some of the online specialty retailers. You will find a variety of thermostats, heaters and vent motors to help you achieve the consistent environment that your plants will thrive in. You will also likely notice that the best way to take advantage of these controls is to purchase a house that already has them built in. The fact is that it’s much more difficult to install such controls after the fact. So, what are you waiting for? Get online and find your mini greenhouse.

Whether looking to use leaves as a form of natural mulch or if just wanting a more aesthetically-pleasing yard, autumn is one of busiest times of year for homeowners. While some people do not mind the job of leaf clean-up, others see collecting leaves as a labor-intensive task. Depending on preference, some people choose to rake their leaves, while others prefer to use more mechanized tools like a leaf blower or lawn sweeper.

There are some ways to make the collection of leaves a more streamlined process. First, instead of putting leaves in a trash bag and bringing the bag to the trash; those people who want to bag their own leaves can plan ahead. Have a trash bag available by using one that is already lining the trash can; which means you will need to prepare the trash can before starting the task. By setting the bag up this way, the process will hold the bag open; allowing workers to dump greater amounts of leaves in at a time and ensure more leaves go in the trash than return the ground.

Buy the best selling WORX TriVac WG500 12-Amp All-in-One Electric Blower/Mulcher/Vacuum from Amazon now!

Next, try to time your leaf collection when weather is optimal. Blowing or raking wet leaves can take longer than removing dry ones. Because they are less dense, a person can lift more leaves dry than if they are wet. Furthermore, because leaves come in close contact with the yard worker, working with dry leaves will help keep a person’s clothing and shoes dry.

Finally, try to recycle leaves. Helping to expedite the process, if able to move the leaves from one place to another; do so. Because lawn service collection is more infrequent than garbage collection, bagged leaves risk sitting on the curb longer than ordinary trash. This can diminish your home’s curb appeal. If able to recycle parts of your lawn trash, this will eliminate the cluttered appearance as well as save homeowners cash; by not having to purchase lawn and leaf trash bags.
