Copper Tulip Rain Chain Review
Copper rain chains are attractive and functional and a good replacement for ugly plastic spouting. More and more people are replacing their plastic downspouts with these type of copper rain chains. They are easy to fit and will last for many years as the copper is coated with shellac to protect the metal from oxidation. They come in a huge variety of designs including flowers such as lilies, watering cans, umbrellas and my favorite, tulip rain chains.
Although the traditional rain chain was simple chain links cup shaped links are very popular. The cups are shaped in different designs and have a hole in the bottom to allow the water to flow down the chain to a collection point. Copper bowls are popular for collecting the water but you could also fill a wooden box with shiny pebbles or use a traditional water barrel. In addition to the chain it’s a good idea to use a reducer fitted to the guttering to prevent splashing as the water flows from the gutter to the chain. A reducer directs the flow to the chain and thus eliminates the splashing.
